Why it Works: Active Substances

Explore the key actives and their benefits for your skin.

Sodium Ascorbyl Phosphate (Vitamin C): Vitamin C acts as an effective antioxidant in which it delays or protects against cellular damage caused by reactive oxidative species and/or free radicals. Water soluble Vitamin C derivative with superior stability in formulations compared to L-ascorbic acid (Vitamin C). Sodium Ascorbyl Phosphate is a salt that converts to ascorbic acid when applied to the skin and is gentler and more stable on the skin compared to L-ascorbic acid (Vitamin C). Acts on the melanin formation process to prevent hyperpigmentation and senile keratosis. Exhibits anti-inflammatory and anti-microbial benefits. Works synergistically with Vitamin E.

Glycolic Acid: has the smallest molecular weight amongst all the alpha-hydroxy acids and it penetrates into the skin easily • Dermal remodeling of the ECM: GA enhances collagen production by fibroblasts • Increases density of collagen and improves quality of elastic fibers • Ability to increase dermal and epidermal hyaluronic acid (glycosaminoglycans) • Increases epidermis thickness

Vaccinium angustifolium (Blueberry) Vaccinium angustifolium is exceptionally rich in bioactive polyphenols — including flavonoids, phenolic acids, and anthocyanins — that collectively deliver potent antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and antimicrobial activity in skincare formulations. Anthocyanins are the dominant polyphenolic class in blueberry and among the most powerful antioxidants found in nature. Responsible for the fruit's characteristic deep-blue pigmentation, these nitrogen-free flavonoid pigments are highly effective free-radical scavengers, neutralizing reactive oxygen species (ROS) that drive oxidative stress and accelerate skin aging. Beyond antioxidant defense, anthocyanins exhibit meaningful enzyme-inhibitory activity — targeting collagenase and elastase to help preserve the skin's structural matrix — alongside clinically relevant anti-inflammatory and antibacterial effects.

Acetyl Hexapeptide-1 Acetyl Hexapeptide-1 is a synthetic peptide composed of six amino acids — alanine, arginine, histidine, leucine, phenylalanine, and tryptophan — conjugated with acetic acid. It functions as a peptide agonist of α-MSH (α-Melanocyte-Stimulating Hormone), meaning it binds to and activates the same receptor that α-MSH naturally targets. Through its affinity for the MC1-R (melanocortin-1 receptor), Acetyl Hexapeptide-1 exerts two primary and clinically relevant effects: Natural Photoprotection By mimicking α-MSH activity, the peptide stimulates melanocyte function, upregulates tyrosinase activity, and promotes melanin pigment production — the skin's endogenous defense mechanism against UV-induced damage. Inflammation Modulation Via MC1-R receptor activation, Acetyl Hexapeptide-1 downregulates key pro-inflammatory mediators — including IL-1 (interleukin-1), IL-8 (interleukin-8), and PGE2 (prostaglandin E2) — providing measurable protection against UV-induced erythema and helping to calm inflammatory cascades in sensitized skin.

Ubiquinone (Coenzyme Q10) Ubiquinone, commonly known as Coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10), is an oil-soluble, vitamin-like molecule present in every cellular membrane in the human body. It is both obtained through diet and synthesized endogenously, making it a fundamental component of normal cellular function. CoQ10 plays a critical role in mitochondrial energy metabolism, facilitating electron transfer within the oxidative respiratory chain to drive the production of adenosine triphosphate (ATP) — the cell's primary energy currency. As an antioxidant, CoQ10 protects biological membranes through multiple mechanisms: inhibiting lipid peroxidation, stabilizing calcium channels to prevent cellular calcium overload, and participating in the regeneration of α-tocopherol (Vitamin E) — amplifying the skin's broader antioxidant network. When applied topically, CoQ10 penetrates the skin and concentrates preferentially in the epidermis, achieving levels up to ten times higher than those found in the dermis. In both epidermal keratinocytes and dermal fibroblasts, it provides targeted defense against free radical damage and UVA-induced oxidative stress. Sustained topical application has been shown to protect dermal fibroblasts from photoaging, helping to preserve the structural integrity of the skin's extracellular matrix.

Tocopherol (Vitamin E): Primary oil-soluble antioxidant that resides in our skin. Vitamin E plays an important part in the protection against oxidative stressors, such as ultraviolet radiation, pollution, and chemicals. The upper layers of the stratum corneum contain significantly higher levels of the antioxidant α-tocopherol. Has emollient properties: sebaceous gland secretion is a physiological pathway for the delivery of vitamin E to upper layers of facial skin. This mechanism may serve to protect skin surface lipids and the upper stratum corneum from harmful oxidation. Significant photoprotection against UVB rays. Vit C + Vit E work in synergy and provide photoprotection.
