Why it Works: Active Substances

Explore the key actives and their benefits for your skin.

Aloe Vera Leaf Juice: a medicinal plant that has been used for centuries for its therapeutic properties: this healing plant consists of a range of compounds including water-soluble and fat-soluble vitamins, minerals, enzymes, polysaccharides, phenolic compounds and organic acids. Antiseptic properties from salicylic acid, lupeol, sulfur which is found in the plant. Antibacterial properties from aloin and emodin which are found in the plant. Humectant: binds moisture to skin from its mucopolysaccharides. Anti-inflammatory and healing properties from glucomannan. Cellular regeneration due to its antioxidant properties.

Caprylic/capric triglyceride: a common ingredient in skin care products that moisturizes, smooths, and replenishes the skin. It's often made from coconut oil and glycerin and is considered a natural alternative to synthetic chemicals. Benefits of caprylic/capric triglyceride: Moisturizing: Creates a barrier to prevent water loss and lock in hydration. Ideal for dry skin. Smoothing : Improves the texture of skin care products and helps them spread more easily. Lightweight & Non Non-comedogenic. Preservative: Can help stabilize products and make active ingredients last longer. Gentle: Generally, causes little to no side effects and doesn't often cause irritation or allergic reactions. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) considers caprylic acid, a main component of caprylic/capric triglyceride, to be generally safe for use as a food additive. Safety assessments have deemed caprylic/capric triglyceride safe in cosmetic formulations in concentrations below 50%

Jojoba Seed Oil: is composed of almost 98% pure waxes, sterols, vitamins, flavonoids, and phenols. Similar to the esters found in the sebum on our skin, it aids in balancing the oil on our skin. Jojoba oil functions as a deep cleansing agent that clears blocked pores. Its properties, as a liquid wax, allows the dissolution of sebum deposits within hair follicles due to an ability to penetrate the follicles and remove comedones, thus clearing the skin. It provides excellent emollient, antioxidant, anti-acne, anti-psoriasis, anti-inflammatory, antifungal, and antimicrobial properties.

Glycerin is a sugar alcohol compound containing carbons and hydrophilic hydroxyl groups that can be obtained from natural sources or can be synthesized. It is obtained from organic plant oils like organic palm, organic soya, and organic coconut oil. It is water soluble and non-toxic • Acts as a moisturizing and emollient agent in which it can soften and soothe skin • Acts as a humectant: It is used in formulas to help the skin retain moisture: It is highly hygroscopic (tending to absorb moisture from the air) and viscous (having a thick, sticky consistency between solid and liquid), odorless, and colorless. Endogenous glycerol plays a role in skin hydration, cutaneous elasticity and epidermal barrier repair. The aquaporin-3 transport channel and lipid metabolism in the pilosebaceous unit have been evidenced as potential pathways for endogenous delivery of glycerol and for its metabolism in the skin. • Multiple diverse effects of glycerol on the epidermis have been reported: • Improvement of stratum corneum hydration • Skin barrier function and skin mechanical properties • Protection against irritating stimuli • Enhancement of desmosomal degradation • Acceleration of wound wound-healing processes • Antimicrobial effects have been demonstrated.

Retinol: improves texture of skin by accelerating the process of keratinization, reduces the appearance of pimples and comedones by increasing cell turnover and decreasing oil. Retinol penetrates into the basal layer of the epidermis (composed of living cells that are producing new cells), and by interacting with receptors inside keratinocytes, promotes their proliferation, strengthens the epidermal protective function, and reduces trans trans-epidermal water loss (TEWL).

Panthenol (pro-vitamin B5): involved in various physiological processes such as intercellular lipid synthesis in the epidermis. Panthenol has a moisturizing effect and strengthens the skin barrier function thus improving the ability of the skin barrier to retain moisture. Additionally, these both have a positive effect on wound healing. Panthenol improves the moisture supply within the skin. It can be applied topically and upon absorption will then be converted to pantothenic acid, which is transported to deeper skin tissues to improve moisture and water binding.
