Why it Works: Active Substances

Explore the key actives and their benefits for your skin.

Sunflower Seed Oil (Helianthus annuus) is primarily composed of unsaturated fatty acids — specifically linoleic acid (Omega-6) and oleic acid (Omega-9) — with minor amounts of saturated fats. It is also one of nature's richest sources of fat-soluble Vitamin E (alpha-tocopherol), a powerful antioxidant that protects the skin from oxidative damage. Linoleic acid plays a particularly critical role in skin health: it is used by the skin to synthesize essential lipids — including ceramides, triglycerides, and sterols — that are fundamental to maintaining epidermal barrier integrity, limiting transepidermal water loss (TEWL), and preventing unwanted water entry into the skin. Barrier Repair — Linoleic acid (Omega-6) supports the synthesis of ceramides and other structural lipids essential for maintaining a healthy, intact epidermal barrier. Antioxidant Protection — One of nature's richest sources of Vitamin E (alpha-tocopherol), neutralizing free radicals and protecting the skin from oxidative stress and environmental damage. Anti-Inflammatory — Helps reduce inflammation and calm reactive or sensitized skin. Wound Healing — Supports the skin's natural repair processes, accelerating recovery from damage and irritation. Photoprotection — Provides a degree of protection against UV-induced oxidative damage. Moisture Retention — Ceramide synthesis supported by linoleic acid limits TEWL, keeping skin hydrated and resilient.

Lauryl Laurate: Plant based, low molecular weight, multi functional emollient. Produced by esterification of fatty alcohols and it reduces the greasy feel of oil systems and provides a smooth feel. (Anhydrous skin care refers to skincare products that do not contain water as an ingredient . Instead, these products use oils and other natural ingredients to provide hydration and nourishment to the skin.)

Cetyl Palmitate: Made from sustainable palm oil, it acts as an emollient, occlusive, and skin-conditioning agent. It is a pure vegetable lipid ester derived from cetyl alcohol and palmitic acid (naturally occurring fatty acid).

Tocopherol (Vitamin E): Primary fat-soluble antioxidant that resides in our skin. Antioxidant: protects against cellular damage • Vitamin E plays an important part in the protection against oxidative stressors, such as ultraviolet radiation, pollution, and chemicals • Upper layers of the stratum corneum contain significantly higher levels of the antioxidant α-tocopherol • Sebaceous gland secretion is a physiological pathway for the delivery of vitamin E to upper layers of facial skin. This mechanism may serve to protect skin surface lipids and the upper stratum corneum from harmful oxidation • Significant photoprotection against UVB rays • Vit C + Vit E work in synergy and provide photoprotection • Has emollient properties

Oryza sativa (Rice) Bran Oil: Contains fatty acids such as palmitic, stearic, oleic, and linoleic and other components include antioxidants such as tocopherols (Vitamin E).

Rosehip Seed Oil: Promotes moisture retention, emollient properties, and anti-inflammatory properties.

NOURISHING LIPIDS: Organic Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Seed Oil, Rosa Canina (Rosehip) Seed Oil, Oryza sativa (Rice) Bran Oil, Lauryl Laurate and Cetyl Palmitate, Hippophae Rhamnoides (Sea Buckthorn) Fruit Oil, Argania Spinosa (Organic Argan) Kernel Oil, Tocopherol (Vitamin E).

As a skin care minimalist, this is the one product I must have on hand always. The smell is amazing and it leaves my aging and slightly dry skin feeling perfectly moisturized and dewy. This is the first product I've had on refill consistently, and I'm so glad I found it.
