Why it Works: Active Substances

Explore the key actives and their benefits for your skin.

Sunflower Seed Oil (Helianthus annuus) is primarily composed of unsaturated fatty acids — specifically linoleic acid (Omega-6, ~60% of the oil) and oleic acid (Omega-9, 14–43% of unsaturated fatty acids) — with minor amounts of saturated fats. It is also one of nature's richest sources of fat-soluble Vitamin E (alpha-tocopherol), a powerful antioxidant that protects the skin from oxidative damage. Linoleic acid plays a particularly critical role in skin health: it is used by the skin to synthesize essential lipids — including ceramides, triglycerides, and sterols — that are fundamental to maintaining epidermal barrier integrity, limiting transepidermal water loss (TEWL), and preventing unwanted water entry into the skin. Barrier Repair — Linoleic acid (Omega-6, ~60% of the oil) supports the synthesis of ceramides and other structural lipids essential for maintaining a healthy, intact epidermal barrier. Antioxidant Protection — One of nature's richest sources of Vitamin E (alpha-tocopherol), neutralizing free radicals and protecting the skin from oxidative stress and environmental damage. Anti-Inflammatory — Helps reduce inflammation and calm reactive or sensitized skin. Wound Healing — Supports the skin's natural repair processes, accelerating recovery from damage and irritation. Photoprotection — Provides a degree of protection against UV-induced oxidative damage. Moisture Retention — Ceramide synthesis supported by linoleic acid limits TEWL, keeping skin hydrated and resilient. Lightweight & Non-Greasy — Its non-greasy, lightweight texture absorbs readily into the skin, making it suitable for all skin types including oily and combination.

Shea Butter (Butyrospermum parkii) is derived from the seed of the Shea tree, native to Central Africa. It is a rich, naturally occurring butter prized for its deeply emollient, moisturizing, and skin-replenishing properties. Shea Butter is an abundant source of antioxidant compounds — including quercetin, epicatechin gallate, gallocatechin, and epigallocatechin — as well as a complex of skin-nourishing fatty acids: stearic, oleic, linoleic, and palmitic acids. It is particularly beneficial for dry, mature, irritated, flaky, and eczema-prone skin. Emollient & Deep Moisturizing — Rich, creamy texture delivers deep hydration and lasting moisture retention, softening and smoothing the skin surface. Antioxidant Protection — Contains a potent blend of polyphenols — quercetin, epicatechin gallate, gallocatechin, and epigallocatechin — that neutralize free radicals and protect against oxidative stress. Skin Barrier Support — Fatty acid complex (stearic, oleic, linoleic, and palmitic acids) replenishes and reinforces the skin's natural lipid barrier. Viscosity & Texture Enhancer — Functions as a natural viscosity-increasing agent, contributing to the rich, luxurious feel of creams and balms. Soothing & Anti-Inflammatory — Calms irritated, reactive, and eczema-prone skin, reducing redness and discomfort.

Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride A naturally derived emollient and skin-conditioning agent most commonly sourced from coconut oil and glycerin. It is lightweight, non-comedogenic, and exceptionally well-tolerated across all skin types — including sensitive and acne-prone skin. The FDA considers caprylic acid, its primary component, generally safe for use, and safety assessments have confirmed its safety in cosmetic formulations at concentrations below 50%. Moisturizing — Creates a barrier that prevents transepidermal water loss (TEWL) and locks in hydration, making it ideal for dry and compromised skin. Smoothing — Improves product texture and spreadability for a refined, elegant skin feel. Lightweight and Non-Comedogenic — Absorbs readily without clogging pores or leaving a heavy residue. Formulation Stabilizer — Helps stabilize active ingredients, extending product efficacy and shelf life. Gentle and Non-Irritating — Well-tolerated with minimal risk of irritation or allergic response.

Tocopheryl Acetate (Vitamin E): An important fat-soluble antioxidant that protects against cellular damage and contains anti-inflammatory properties. Tocopheryl Acetate is made through a chemical reaction between tocopherol (a natural form of vitamin E) and acetic acid. The compound is a synthetic form of vitamin E that has the same antioxidant properties as the natural form. Protects the skin from ultraviolet radiation, pollution, toxins, chemicals, and smoke by acting as a free-radical scavenger.

Panthenol (Pro-Vitamin B5) is the stable, topically applied precursor to pantothenic acid (Vitamin B5) — a component of Coenzyme A, which plays a critical role in intercellular lipid synthesis in the epidermis and fatty acid metabolism. Upon absorption into the skin, panthenol is enzymatically converted to pantothenic acid, which is then transported into deeper skin tissues where it actively improves moisture binding, supports barrier function, and promotes wound healing. Its dual action — both humectant and barrier-strengthening — makes it one of the most well-tolerated and effective hydrating actives in clinical skincare formulations. Humectant & Deep Moisturizing — Improves moisture supply within the skin and enhances the skin barrier's ability to attract and retain water, delivering sustained hydration at multiple skin depths. Skin Barrier Strengthening — Supports intercellular lipid synthesis in the epidermis, reinforcing the structural integrity of the skin barrier and reducing transepidermal water loss (TEWL). Wound Healing — Both panthenol and pantothenic acid have a well-documented positive effect on wound healing, accelerating skin repair and recovery. Penetration & Conversion — Applied topically, panthenol absorbs readily and converts to pantothenic acid in the skin, ensuring active delivery to deeper tissue layers where it is most effective.

Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice is derived from one of the most well-researched medicinal plants in history, used for centuries across cultures for its therapeutic and healing properties. The leaf juice contains a broad spectrum of bioactive compounds — including water-soluble and fat-soluble vitamins, minerals, enzymes, polysaccharides, phenolic compounds, and organic acids. Among these, polyphenols serve as secondary plant metabolites with potent antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and antimicrobial activity. Key active constituents include salicylic acid, lupeol, sulfur, aloin, emodin, mucopolysaccharides, and glucomannan — each contributing distinct therapeutic benefits to the skin. Antiseptic — Salicylic acid, lupeol, and sulfur provide natural antiseptic activity, helping to protect the skin from surface contamination. Antibacterial — Aloin and emodin deliver targeted antibacterial properties, inhibiting the growth of harmful bacteria on the skin. Humectant & Moisture Binding — Mucopolysaccharides bind moisture directly to the skin, providing sustained hydration and a plumping effect. Anti-Inflammatory & Wound Healing — Glucomannan supports the skin's natural healing response and reduces inflammation, making it beneficial for irritated, sensitized, and compromised skin. Antioxidant & Cellular Regeneration — Polyphenols and other antioxidant compounds neutralize free radicals and support cellular repair and regeneration. Antimicrobial — Polyphenolic compounds provide broad antimicrobial protection within formulations and on the skin surface.

I love this moisturizer, can't live without it. I use it at the end of my morning regimen and it is the best base for the bit of make-up that I do wear. It is so creamy and yummy....my skin drinks it up. Try it, you will love it!
