In summer, dry skin doesn't get a break — it gets harder to manage. Heat, UV radiation, air conditioning, and environmental exposure all conspire to strip moisture from the skin and compromise the barrier that keeps it there.
Why Summer Makes Dry Skin Worse
- Air Conditioning — Significantly lowers indoor humidity, continuously drawing moisture from the air and your skin.
- Sun Exposure — UV radiation damages the lipids and proteins that make up the skin barrier, causing moisture loss, peeling, and accelerated dehydration.
- Swimming — Chlorine in pools and salt in the ocean strip the skin of its natural oils, leaving it tight and reactive.
- Sweat & Heat — Intense heat accelerates transepidermal water loss, while sweat can further irritate already sensitive, dry skin.
- Sunburn — Results in a dry, flaky, and compromised barrier that requires intensive hydration and repair to recover.

The Clinical Strategy: Hydrate, Seal, Fortify
The goal for dry skin in summer is to minimize water loss by layering hydration and then sealing it in with emollients that reinforce the skin barrier.
Think of the outermost layer of your skin as a brick-and-mortar system. The "bricks" are your skin cells; the "mortar" is the lipid matrix that holds them together and prevents water from escaping. When that mortar is compromised — by UV damage, chlorine, or dry air — water evaporates freely and skin becomes tight, flaky, and reactive.
Our clinical approach addresses this in two steps: first, we flood the skin with hyaluronic acid to draw in and bind moisture. Then, we seal it with emollient-rich lipids that fill in the gaps in the barrier, preventing that moisture from escaping.
If you have dry skin, we recommend building your summer protocol with our Clinical Summer Routine for Dry Skin — a clinician-designed 4-product bundle formulated to hydrate deeply, seal moisture in, and protect your barrier all season long.
