SCIENCE BASED CLINICAL SKINCARE

Normal | Autumn Clinical Routine

Overview

Autumn brings cooler temperatures and less moisture in the air. Cold air holds less water vapor than warm air, which means lower ambient humidity — and skin feels it. Even normal skin experiences increased transepidermal water loss during this seasonal shift, leading to a compromised moisture barrier and dehydration.

This clinical protocol layers humectants beneath a reparative moisturizing cream to protect, hydrate, and maintain your skin all season long.

Why it Works: Active Substances

Explore the key actives and their benefits for your skin.

Hyaluronic Acid (HA) is a polysaccharide and a compound that occurs naturally in every tissue of the body, with the highest concentrations occurring in tissues such as skin, cartilage and eyes. Providing protection to cell structures, HA is the natural gel between skin cells that serves as a water reservoir for the cells. As we age, skin loses hyaluronic acid and the ability to hold sufficient water in this reservoir. Feeding new hyaluronic acid to skin may help hydrate skin's inter-cellular reservoir, raising skin's moisture level, and smoothing down age lines. The benefits of HA being in the formulation are usually connected with reduction of the skin aging, reduction of the depth of lines and wrinkles (including fine lines), decrease of skin fragility, improvement of skin firmness and texture, decrease in pore size, restoration of skin brightening, and improvement of skin barrier function. •HA has an amazing capacity to retain water and stimulate fibroblast proliferation and migration. Key benefits of Hyaluronic acid in skin care: •Moisturizing and hydration •Reduce fine lines and wrinkles •Increase skin elasticity •Wound healing support •Restoring barrier function

Glycerin is a sugar alcohol compound containing carbons and hydrophilic hydroxyl groups that can be obtained from natural sources or can be synthesized. It is obtained from organic plant oils like organic palm, organic soya, and organic coconut oil. It is water soluble and non-toxic • Acts as a moisturizing and emollient agent in which it can soften and soothe skin. • Acts as a humectant: It is used in formulas to help the skin retain moisture: It is highly hygroscopic ( tending to absorb moisture from the air) and viscous (having a thick, sticky consistency between solid and liquid), odorless, and colorless. Endogenous glycerol, which makes up part of the skin's Natural Moisturizing Factor, plays a role in skin hydration, cutaneous elasticity and epidermal barrier repair. The aquaporin-3 transport channel and lipid metabolism in the pilosebaceous unit have been evidenced as potential pathways for endogenous delivery of glycerol and for its metabolism in the skin. • Multiple diverse effects of glycerol on the epidermis have been reported: • Improvement of stratum corneum hydration • Skin barrier function and skin mechanical properties • Protection against irritating stimuli • Enhancement of desmosomal degradation • Acceleration of wound wound-healing processes • Antimicrobial effects have been demonstrated.

Allantoin: Diureide of Glyoxylic Acid What It Is Allantoin is a naturally occurring compound produced endogenously in humans as a byproduct of purine metabolism and uric acid oxidation. It is found in concentrated form in the roots and leaves of comfrey (Symphytum officinale), and also present in sugar beets, chamomile, wheat sprouts, and tobacco seed. The allantoin used in clinical and cosmetic formulations is synthetically produced — chemically identical to its natural counterpart — ensuring purity, consistency, and stability across formulations. How It Works Allantoin is multifunctional, acting on several key pathways simultaneously: Keratolytic activity — Softens and loosens intercellular cohesion within the stratum corneum, facilitating desquamation and the removal of dead skin cells without disrupting the viable epidermis. Cell proliferation & regeneration — Stimulates keratinocyte and fibroblast activity, promoting increased DNA synthesis and mitotic turnover — mechanisms central to epidermal renewal and wound repair. Anti-inflammatory action — Downregulates pro-inflammatory cytokines (TNF-α, IL-6) and is believed to inhibit NF-κB signaling, reducing oxidative stress and dermal inflammation. Hydration & barrier support — Increases water content within the extracellular matrix and is thought to upregulate aquaporin-3 and filaggrin expression, two proteins critical to moisture retention and barrier integrity. Skin Benefits Immediate: Calms irritation and reduces erythema Improves surface hydration and skin feel Supports healing of minor abrasions and compromised skin With Continued Use: Restores epidermal barrier function Reduces chronic inflammation in sensitive or reactive skin Supports healthy epidermal turnover, contributing to improved skin texture over time Clinical & Regulatory Context Allantoin is recognized by the FDA as a skin protectant active ingredient. It is widely used in pharmaceutical and cosmetic formulations — including topical creams, serums, lotions, and wound-care products — for its anti-irritant, soothing, and healing properties. It is effective at low usage concentrations, making it a well-tolerated addition to formulations targeting sensitive, compromised, or reactive skin.

Shea Butter (Butyrospermum parkii) is derived from the seed of the Shea tree, native to Central Africa. It is a rich, naturally occurring butter prized for its deeply emollient, moisturizing, and skin-replenishing properties. Shea Butter is an abundant source of antioxidant compounds — including quercetin, epicatechin gallate, gallocatechin, and epigallocatechin — as well as a complex of skin-nourishing fatty acids: stearic, oleic, linoleic, and palmitic acids. It is particularly beneficial for dry, mature, irritated, flaky, and eczema-prone skin. Emollient & Deep Moisturizing — Rich, creamy texture delivers deep hydration and lasting moisture retention, softening and smoothing the skin surface. Antioxidant Protection — Contains a potent blend of polyphenols — quercetin, epicatechin gallate, gallocatechin, and epigallocatechin — that neutralize free radicals and protect against oxidative stress. Skin Barrier Support — Fatty acid complex (stearic, oleic, linoleic, and palmitic acids) replenishes and reinforces the skin's natural lipid barrier. Viscosity & Texture Enhancer — Functions as a natural viscosity-increasing agent, contributing to the rich, luxurious feel of creams and balms. Soothing & Anti-Inflammatory — Calms irritated, reactive, and eczema-prone skin, reducing redness and discomfort.

Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice is derived from one of the most well-researched medicinal plants in history, used for centuries across cultures for its therapeutic and healing properties. The leaf juice contains a broad spectrum of bioactive compounds — including water-soluble and fat-soluble vitamins, minerals, enzymes, polysaccharides, phenolic compounds, and organic acids. Among these, polyphenols serve as secondary plant metabolites with potent antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and antimicrobial activity. Key active constituents include salicylic acid, lupeol, sulfur, aloin, emodin, mucopolysaccharides, and glucomannan — each contributing distinct therapeutic benefits to the skin.

Pichia/Resveratrol Ferment Extract: Resveratrol is an effective active ingredient but it has difficulty penetrating through the skin barrier. Pichia Pastoris is a yeast that ferments resveratrol making it more readily available for the skin to absorb. Resveratrol is a polyphenol (micronutrients found in plants), phytoestrogen (plant-based compound that can mildly mimic the effects of estrogen in the body and they can bind to estrogen receptors), and a phytoalexin (antimicrobial compounds produced by plants). This compound is found in grapes, berries, tomatoes and nuts. It exhibits antioxidant, anti-inflammatory properties, reparative/wound healing and regenerative properties such as enhancing collagen synthesis, protecting the skin against the harmful effects of UVB radiation, and inhibiting tyrosinase which aids in reducing skin discoloration.
