Overview

Humid Climate Skin Care

The Southeastern United States has a humid subtropical climate  characterized by long, hot, intensely humid summers and mild winters. Its proximity to the equator means more direct solar exposure year-round, placing it among the highest UV-risk regions in the country. During summer months, both UV intensity and humidity reach their peak, creating compounding challenges for skin health and barrier function.

Humid weather accelerates the buildup of sweat and sebum on the skin, leading to clogged pores and breakouts. This targeted treatment combats excess oil with a clinically active trio — salicylic acid, niacinamide, and retinol — while maintaining hydration through humectants and defending the skin against environmental damage with antioxidants throughout the day.

AM & PM Protocol for Humid Climates

AM

Step 1 - Cleanse: Clarifying Cleansing Gel
Step 2 - Moisturize: Apply Harmony Moisturizer to face and neck, massaging in gently. Avoid the eye area.

M / W / F  - Exfoliate: After cleansing, apply a dime-sized amount of Illuminating Complexion Exfoliator to face and neck. This step is easiest in the shower. Massage into skin, avoiding the eye area, and allow to sit for 2–3 minutes before rinsing thoroughly.

PM

Step 1 - Double Cleanse:

  • First cleanse: Apply 2 pumps of Complete Cleansing Oil to wet hands and massage into face and neck, avoiding the eye area. Add more water to emulsify, then rinse with warm water.
  • Second cleanse: Follow with Clarifying Cleansing Gel.

Step 2 - Treat: Apply 2 pumps of Illuminating Serum to face and neck, massaging in gently. Avoid the eye area.

Step 3 - Moisturize: Apply Harmony Moisturizer to face and neck, massaging in gently. Avoid the eye area.

Bamboo Charcoal: excellent absorbency and detoxifying capacity and exfoliating properties.

Jojoba Seed Oil: is composed of almost 98% pure waxes, sterols, vitamins, flavonoids, and phenols. Similar to the esters found in the sebum on our skin, it aids in balancing the oil on our skin. Jojoba oil functions as a deep cleansing agent that clears blocked pores. Its properties, as a liquid wax, allows the dissolution of sebum deposits within hair follicles due to an ability to penetrate the follicles and remove comedones, thus clearing the skin. It provides excellent emollient, antioxidant, anti-acne, anti-psoriasis, anti-inflammatory, antifungal, and antimicrobial properties.

Glycolic Acid: Helps desquamate away old skin cells so they can be replaced with less new skin cells. Aids in reducing uneven skin tone and clogged pores while clarifying the skin.

Retinol: improves texture of skin by accelerating the process of keratinization, reduces the appearance of pimples and comedones by increasing cell turnover and decreasing oil. Retinol penetrates into the basal layer of the epidermis (composed of living cells that are producing new cells), and by interacting with receptors inside keratinocytes, promotes their proliferation, strengthens the epidermal protective function, and reduces trans trans-epidermal water loss (TEWL).

Niacinamide: Skin Barrier Support: Stimulates ceramide production which helps to retain moisture by preventing trans-epidermal water loss. Oil & Pore Control: Regulates sebum production, which helps minimize the appearance of pores and reduce shine. Anti-inflammatory: Calms redness and irritation, making it suitable for sensitive skin and acne-prone skin. Deeper Dive: Niacinamide, a member of the vitamin B3 family, is essential for NAD+ (nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide) synthesis and it aids in the energy generation process within mammalian cells. It also displays potent antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. Due to niacinamide’s anti-inflammatory effects, it presents antimicrobial activity, making it effective against bacteria and preventing biofilm formation. It also has the ability to reduce sebum, hyperpigmentation and glycation-related yellowing. Niacinamide aids in the extracellular matrix integrity by preserving collagen and inhibiting matrix-degrading enzymes. It also provides epidermal barrier improvement with the stimulation of ceramide synthesis.

Salix Alba Bark (Organic Willow Bark) Extract: Cleansing, soothing, anti-inflammatory and anti-acne agent. Contains salicylates that can gently exfoliate and help treat problem skin for a smoother, more even complexion.
